About Ariosa Coffee
Established in 2003, Ariosa Coffee was one of the very first speciality micro coffee roasting companies in Ireland — long before "speciality coffee" was a phrase most people in Drogheda had heard. Founder Michael Kelly started out roasting in a small garage in Co. Meath, selling freshly roasted beans at local farmers' markets and events, with no business plan beyond a genuine passion for good coffee.
More than two decades on, that same roastery in Ashbourne, Co Meath, still supplies every bag and every cup served across Ariosa's three locations — the original roastery café, the Lawrence Street café in Drogheda town centre, and By the Sea on the Coast Road in Laytown. The beans are bought directly and ethically from smallholder growers around the world, so the people who grow the coffee are treated as fairly as the people who drink it.
For Drogheda, Ariosa has meant proper, locally roasted speciality coffee on the doorstep rather than a trip to Dublin — and a homegrown Irish business that has grown from a one-man market stall into a recognised, award-winning roastery without losing the original, founder-led feel.
